GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: Who are you guys?
A: We’re a group of friends (5 of us) who enjoy translating (Japanese to English). Most of us are too busy with our daily lives, have WAY too many bills, to bother translating freelance for free, so we decided to take comissions and use our free time to good use. Wanna help support some poor college students living off ramen every day?

Q: Why do you charge for your translations?
A: We try to make our prices reasonable so that it’s worth the time it takes to translate them. Please realize translating is a LOT of work. One whole volume can take 8-14 hours AVERAGE. That is a LOT of time. We try to our prices reasonable, yet till make it worthwhile for us at the same time (of course). Please note our prices are negotiable. Q: How will payment be processed?
A: All payment will be processed via Paypal. We can not accept mail orders, as the arrival can not be guaranteed. You will be given our paypal order upon an order. Payment info will be described more thoroughly when you order.

Q: No Furigana, and Furigana. What does that stand for? Why is Furigana cheaper than No Furigana?
A: When you’re reading Japanese, you have kanji. Kanji you gotta know to be able to read it. There are thousands of kanji out there, unlike English where we only have 26 letters in the alphabet. So if you don’t know a specific kanji, you gotta look it up in a kanji dictionary. One missing meaning from a kanji can completely kill the contect of an entire phrase. Is it hard to memorize kanji? You bet. However, there’s this beautiful thing called furigana. Furigana is reading aid next to kanji. It consists of smaller kana printed next to a kanji to indicate its pronunciation. That way, even if you don’t know the kanji, you can still read it and figure out it’s meaning from the furigana.

Shoujo and shounen are known to have furigana, as they are aimed at younger audiences. However, manga aimed at older audiences such as seinen, josei, hentai, etc. don’t have furigana. Don’t get me wrong, we CAN translate without furigana, but it’s just more troublesome for some of us, especially when you gotta look up an unfamiliar kanji. That’s why it’s more expensive for non-furigana series.

If you are having trouble identifying manga, then look at this. Check out this sample. I have circled the kanji with furigana. Now look at this page (different manga). There is no furigana. However, be careful! Sometimes there is “furigana” next to names / places to deem how it’s pronounced. Check out this page. It has some “furigana” in the bottom panel. That’s only to identify a name. I can assure you this particular series is a non-furigana series. If you are not sure, look through the raws. Do most pages lack furigana? Then chances are it has no furigana. If you are still confused over whether your series has furigana or not, shoot us an email with a few sample pages and we will identify for you.

Q: Do you guys offer Korean & Chinese translations?
A: Well, Japanese is our main language, as it is higher in demand. However, yes, we will translate Korean & Chinese for you. A few of our translators are familiar with both those languages, so they are more than willing. If you want Korean or Chinese translations,  shoot us a message and we can work something out. Yes, Korean/Chinese translations are cheaper than Japanese.

Q: Can I use your translations for my scanlation/fansubbing/whatever group?
A: Uh… YES? You can go ahead and do that. I honestly think 90% of orders we get are for purposes like so. Why would I not let you? Just remember that as long as you credit us, we’re totally fine with it.

Q: How do we order?
A: Visit our Contact Us page, and fill out an application form. We’ll email you back with our response.

Q: What’s the process of payment?
A: If you are a first-time costumer or your order is pretty large, you will be required to pay 50% in advance. Depending on how you pick your hand-in time (for manga it might be by volume, by chapter, all at once, etc), you will then be needed to send the rest of the payment (more info on this when you order). The money MUST be sent to paypal before you get your finished project.

Q: What type of things can I get translated?
A: I honestly don’t care. Manga, anime, Dramas (J, K, or C), light novels, movies – I don’t care one bit. Whether it be hentai/porn, ecchi, comedy, I DON’T CARE! However, if it’s something way too explicit (loli/shota, hentai, etc), it might cause some complications. If it’s hentai or something inappropiate like so, we can reject your order because of complications with translators willingness. So be careful. However, it doesn’t mean we won’t do it. ^_^ Just go ahead and ask, who knows?

Q: Is there any possible way to get free translations, or receive discounts?
A: Yea, there are. Sometimes we do special events where you can win free translations, or receive some sort of discount. We’ll always post them on our front page, so be on the lookout for them! Of course, we have discounts and offers that are available all the time. Just check out our Rates page.

Q: I want Chapter/Episode Y of Series X translated, but I have no raws of it. Can you source them for me?
A: Most of the time, I can’t do that. I expect you to provide the raws (make sure they are decent and readable) most of the time. However, if there are truly no e-raws available and you don’t own the series, you can ask. If it’s a case of a light novel or manga, we can order it for you. You will, however, have to pay both the cost of the book(s) and the shipping. The labour of scanning will be done for FREE. If it’s for a manga scanlation group of any sort, we WILL scan at 300 DPI HQ scans (or at your desired setting) so you can also use them for your group (of course, you gotta credit for scanning too). Thing is, you gotta get the thing translated by us too. Meaning, we won’t just buy and scan for you; you gotta get it translated by us too. Keep that in mind. Also, out of the 13 orders (bribe slots included) there can only be 3 of these type of orders at a time. I will note down what orders are a type of buy-scan order.

Q: What can I do with my translations?
A: I don’t have many restrictions. For one, you gotta credit us. We’ll give you a translator’s username, and you must credit them. Noting down that you got your translations via here is totally optional – I understand some groups are cautious about being associated to these kind of sites. I don’t take any offense, and you don’t have to say (though you do get a 5% discount if you do ^^). Just keep the original translator’s name in the credit’s page, and don’t alter it in any way.

Second of all, do not use the translations for profit. I really don’t care if you distribute them (they are, after all, your translations), but as long as you’re not charging people to access them. I don’t mind you taking donations on your site, but the files must be able to get accessed by anyone for FREE. If I find you trying to make money off our translations, I will publicly post them up here for anyone to access.

Q: Will you distribute the translations on your site for anyone to get?
A: No, I won’t. I give you the script, and you decide what to do with it. I will not share it with anyone but you. The only exception to me distributing the files here publicly is if you break the no-profiting rule for translations (see F.A.Q. above). What you do with your translations is totally up to you.

STRICTLY MANGA

Q: I don’t wanna order a full volume (180 pages). Instead, I wanna order a single chapter of x number of pages. Is that possible?
A: Certainly. In the Rates page, there is an estimate of how much each single page will cost you. Just get the # of pages, and multiply it by the single cost per page. That ought to give you a rough estimate of how much it’ll cost you for that amount of pages.
